Safety Committee Training (JHSC)
This Joint Committee Safety Training course is designed to provide the essential knowledge and skills necessary for Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) members in British Columbia to effectively fulfill their roles in maintaining a safe and compliant workplace. The course aligns with WorkSafeBC’s regulations and guidelines, ensuring that committee members understand their legal responsibilities and how to collaborate to improve workplace safety and health.
Participants will gain a thorough understanding of WorkSafeBC’s requirements for JHSCs, as well as the tools and techniques needed to identify, assess, and control workplace hazards. Emphasis is placed on the roles and duties of committee members in fostering a culture of safety, ensuring worker participation in health and safety initiatives, and addressing safety concerns effectively.
Through interactive lessons, group discussions, and practical case studies, this course will equip participants to:
- Understand WorkSafeBC’s requirements for Joint Health and Safety Committees and their legal responsibilities
- Conduct hazard assessments, inspections, and risk analyses in the workplace
- Effectively investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses to identify root causes and prevent recurrence
- Facilitate communication between workers and management to promote safety awareness and address safety issues
- Develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and corrective actions
- Organize and run JHSC meetings, ensuring proper documentation and follow-up of safety concerns
- Foster a culture of safety, health, and continuous improvement within the workplace
This training is essential for those who serve on Joint Health and Safety Committees or are involved in workplace safety, providing them with the skills and confidence needed to promote a safer work environment and comply with all WorkSafeBC regulations.

Certification: Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Joint Committee Safety Training Certificate.
